Industrial Estates Association Hopes All Permits Processed in Batam

The Industrial Estates Assembly (Himpunan Kawasan Industri – HKI) hopes that permits and licences for doing business in Batam can be processed within Batam. Such aspiration was expressed during HKI’s visit to BP Batam (BIFZA), received by BIFZA Chairman, Muhammad Rudi, Thursday last week (3/11/2022).

Mainly interested in more closely observing Batam and its industrial estates’ development progress, HKI’s visit is also said to appreciate the significant changes recently undertaken in Batam, not only in terms of infrastructure but also permits issuance services.

HKI’s delegation was directly shepherded by HKI Chairman Sanny Iskandar, who came together with around 30 industrial estates’ entrepreneurs among HKI members. HKI itself has 107 member companies spread across 22 Indonesian provinces.

“Our attending HKI fellows can directly see Batam’s business atmosphere today. So if they wish to expand their industry, they are saying that they wish to choose Batam, which has been developing extraordinarily. Moreover, permit issuance services are now very easy in Batam.” Iskandar said.

HKI Batam Vice Chairman, Peters Vincen, also pointed out that entrepreneurs feel such great support through the various innovations brought about by BIFZA. Vincen also conveyed hope that permits and licences relating to Batam FTZ can be processed solely in Batam.

“Our investing activities today have been made very easy, permit issuances are much faster with BIFZA’s latest breakthroughs. However, there are several issues we need to get across regarding (the recent) Work Creation Law (UU Cipta Kerja); that not all permits can be obtained in Batam. Take AMDAL (Environmental Impact Analysis), for example, which we currently need to process at the Central Government Level. Applications’ queue list automatically gets really long that way. If such permits can be processed in Batam, it would be much better.” said Peter.

“Recently we see a lot of breakthroughs (in Batam), be it in terms of services or physical development. So we hope our fellow entrepreneurs from other areas can also make the most use of what Batam has done.” Iskandar added.

Iskandar also hopes that cooperation can materialise between HKI, BIFZA, and Batam City Government, in terms of planning, coordination, or monitoring of the region’s development. Iskandar is positive about the high likelihood of HKI member companies expanding their business to Batam, after seeing BIFZA’s commitment in striving for service excellence to investors.

Overjoyed, BIFZA Chairman, Muhammad Rudi, who concurrently serves as Batam City Mayor, appreciates HKI visit, saying that it serves as an excellent promotion for Batam.

“We are delighted that they (The HKI) come. They are promoters for Batam; promotions which can reduce our promotion costs. In essence, we ask them to help promote the City of Batam. We are working towards a condition that is more perfect, if we get help from HKI, it would mean a lot.” Rudi said smilingly.

Rudi then calls for support from HKI as well as all businesses so that the implementation of new regulations can be according to what businesses wish for them to be. As known to public, a list of 69 business permits have been handed over for BP Batam to handle through the authority of Government Regulations (GR) No. 41/2021,

“We have made efforts to undergo changes, one of which by easing permit processes. Government Regulations 41/2021 also exists to accelerate investment. When we say investment, we understand how businesses would want everything able to be done in Batam. We hope such aspirations can be heard by our government.” Rudi added.
